DIY Deep Relief Essential Oil Recipe for Sore Muscles

Over the past three years, I’ve been on a personal health and fitness journey. I’m also training to be on American Ninja Warrior. So, as you can imagine, I have some pretty sore muscles, like all the time.

You may be searching for a deep relief essential oil recipe for many reasons!

  • Sore muscles from working out
  • You have a labor-intensive job
  • Sore muscles from being sedentary, perhaps an office job (yes that’s a thing!)
  • A busy lifestyle that doesn’t allow you to slow down

Whatever the reason, we could all benefit from some deep relief!

    Essential Oils to Use in a Deep Relief Recipe

    • Clove essential oil is very warming by nature and can be used to stimulate circulation. which is needed after a workout!
    • Helichrysum will help control the inflammation from sore muscles and is one of the best pain-relieving essential oils.
    • Lemon essential oil is secondary to helichrysum in terms of pain relief, but still very effective. It’s also really good at smoothing the skin and toning soft tissue underneath.
    • Vetiver essential oil will directly help with the muscle aches associated with working out. It is also useful in controlling inflammation.
    • Peppermint essential oil works as a cooling and soothing sensation on the skin, similar to icyhot. It can also work well in increasing circulation.
    • Balsam Fir is known for decreasing inflammation and muscle swelling, while rejuvenating the mind and body!
    • Copaiba essential is often used to strengthen and enhance the properties and potency of other essential oils.
    • Wintergreen works similarly to peppermint essential oil.
    • Juniper essential oil works great to localize redness and warmth when applied to the skin. It can provide deep relief for muscle pain.
    • Marjoram is very relaxing and can act as a sedative. It can provide comfort and warmth for sore muscles.
    • Rosemary essential oil promotes circulation and eases pain through numbing nerves.
    • Black Pepper essential oil’s main function is to provide deep relief for sore muscles! When applied topically, it helps dilate blood vessels, allowing for more blood flow. It can also help flush out lactic acid after a strenuous workout.
    • Lavender is not just used for stress relief! It’s also a very effective anti-inflammatory and pain reliever with achy muscles. For deep relief, it’s best used in conjunction with other similar essential oils.

    3 Deep Relief Essential Oil Recipes for Sore Muscles

    Deep Relief Epsom Salt Soak

    I have to say, this method is my favorite. I am obsessed with baths though in general.

    Ingredients:

    Instructions:

    • Fill your bathtub with warm to hot water
    • Pour the epsom salts into a small glass bowl.
    • Add in essential oils one drop at a time, stirring after each drop
    • Mix well
    • Add to running water and mix thoroughly
    • Soak for 30 minutes gently massaging sore muscles

    Muscle Relief Massage Oil Blend #1

    • 18 drops wintergreen essential oil
    • 18 drops copaiba essential oil
    • 15 drops balsam fir essential oil
    • 12 drops peppermint essential oil
    • 9 drops vetiver essential oil
    • 9 drops lemon essential oil
    • 9 drops helichrysum essential oil
    • 8 drop clove essential oil
    • 5ml amber glass bottle

    This is a fairly strong dilution. If you experience any skin sensitivities, or are concerned about it, half this recipe.

    Instructions:

    • Mix all essential oils in the glass bottle. This will be your “Muscle Relief Massage Oil Blend #1.”
    • Do not use directly on skin. Instructions for use are directly below.

    How to Use

    In a small glass bowl or container, add 4 teaspoons of grapeseed oil and mix with 8 drops of the blend you just made above. Massage where your muscles are hurting the most!

    Muscle Relief Massage Oil Blend #2

    Ingredients:

    • 15 drops juniper essential oil
    • 15 drops marjoram essential oil
    • 10 drops rosemary essential oil
    • 5 drops black pepper essential oil
    • 5ml amber glass bottle

    Instructions:

    • Mix all essential oils in the glass bottle. This will be your “Muscle Relief Massage Oil Blend #2.”
    • Do not use directly on skin. Instructions for use are directly below.

    How to Use

    In a small glass bowl or container, add 4 teaspoons of grapeseed oil and mix with 8 drops of the blend you just made above. Massage where your muscles are hurting the most!
