Why Can’t You Lose Weight?

I’m sure you’ve heard it before – if you want to lose weight, just eat less and exercise more. Seems simple enough, but for many people this is easier said than done. So why do so many people have trouble losing weight? There are lots of reasons, but here are some of the most common ones. And if you want to use essential oils for weight loss, knowing what’s preventing you from losing weight will help find the best one!

Stress

In today’s world, we are surrounded by stress! It doesn’t matter if you’re in corporate America dealing with the rush, trying to manage your family, or whatever it is you are dealing with. We all have our own perception on what stress is. In a 2018 study, it was proven that cortisol (the hormone released when we deal with stress) causes fat tissue to redistribute to the abdominal region and increases appetite and cravings for “comfort food.”

That means you can eat healthy and exercise all you want, but if you can’t manage stress, it’s possible you will plateau and have issues taking the weight off.

Best Essential Oils for Stress Related Weight Gain: Lavender, Chamomile, Rosemary

Not exercising

Inactivity and a lack of activity leads to obesity more so than eating higher calories, according to Stanford Medicine.

What is your reason for not exercising?

  • Not knowing where to being?
  • Not enough time?
  • Just don’t want too?
  • No energy?

Lack of energy seems to be the one I encounter the most in people. There are many essential oils that can help energize you!

Best essential oils for energy: Sweet Orange, Lemon, Rosemary, Peppermint

Exercising Too Much

Exercising too much can cause a weight loss plateau. The body considers high intensity exercise a stressful event. Constantly exercise will keep high levels of cortisol circulating in your body. Calm down on the exercise and try one of the stress-free essential oils above.

Constant Dieting

Did you know that 95% of people who diet regain all the weight they lose within 5 years? That’s really discouraging! Also, if you are constantly consuming lower calories, your metabolism WILL slow down.

Stop the dieting, learn how to eat to FUEL your body instead of restrict it. If you need help with that let me know in the comments or download my guide above! And add THESE essential oils to help boost your metabolism!

Imbalanced Hormones

Whether you deal with estrogen dominance, gut issues, mood disorders, these issues can affect your ability to lose weight or plateau. There are many essential oils that can help support hormornal balance.

11 Essential Oils for Weight Loss

Essential oils are very versatile. For example, there are many different types of oils for weight loss that can boost metabolism, suppress appetite, increase feelings of fullness and boost energy levels. They are also natural and come from plants which means they will not have any side effects.

Here is a list of essential oils that can help with weight loss:

Clove Oil

Clove essential oil is great at stimulating blood circulation indirectly boosting metabolism. It also has high amounts of antioxidants helpful in fighting those free radicals in the bodies from toxin exposure.

Rosemary oil

Rosemary has relaxing properties as well as promoting a healthy digestive system.

Ginger Oil

This is excellent for digestion as it stimulates the processes that are responsible for breaking food down. It also has appetite suppressing effects, boosts energy levels and helps improve your mood. This essential can help you feel fuller faster which will stop you from eating more than necessary. It can also help in improving circulation which in turn will improve the effectiveness of your metabolism.

Ginger may also be able to help the body better absorb essential nutrients.

Lemon Oil

This essential oil helps detoxify the body by cleansing the digestive tract. It also has high levels of natural Vitamin C which can help promote fat burning.

Grapefruit Oil

Like lemon, grapefruit oil helps the body detox. It is also probably one of the best essential oils out there to aid in weight loss. Look at what all it can do:

  • boost metabolism
  • manage cravings
  • increase energy levels
  • promote fat burning

The compound in grapefruit you can thank for this is nootkatone. When you inhale it, it activates a protein called kinase in your saliva. This is what helps control metabolism, reduces fat in the abdominal region, and inhibit weight gain. Supplement this with nutritious foods and exercise to be a fat burning machine.

Cinnamon Oil

This essential has appetite suppressing effects, increases circulation and speeds up your metabolism. This also helps improve insulin sensitivity which in turn regulates blood sugar levels.

Chamomile Oil

You may be familiar with chamomile as it’s traditionally used in teas to promote sleep or in sleep aids. It has potential to decrease stress hormones, relieving anxiety and feelings of overwhelm. If you’re dealing with stress related weight gain, give Chamomile a try.

Juniper Oil

Juniper can be used to promote a relaxing environment while its diuretic properties can help flush out any excess water weight.

Lavender Oil

Lavender is probably the most effective at relieving stress and anxiety! It’s especially useful in a diffuser. Pretty soon you’ll be able to create a stress free environment.

Bergamot Oil

If you struggle with stress eating (like me) Bergamot may prove to be useful. A study conducted in 2015 showed that bergamot had a physiological effect when it came to lowering stress levels. Heart rate decreased as well as cortisol levels in the body. Bergamot also contains a compound called limonene, which helps reduce stress and manage appetite.

Fennel Oil

Fennel essential oil can be very useful in managing appetite and decreasing cravings. It’s mostly due to the compound melatonin, which promotes an adequate sleep cycle. Ever notice how much hungrier you are when you don’t sleep well. It’s because a hunger hormone ghrelin gets out of whack. It is false hunger we feel. So fennel can help promote sleep which will suppress this hormone.

How to Use Essential Oils for Weight Loss

Diffusing

Using essential oils in an aromatherapy setting is probably the best! And it’s super easy. Simply choose one of the essential oils above and place 13 to 15 drops in a 100 ml water filled diffuser. Breathe in the aroma for at 15 minutes a few times a day.

As mentioned above, Grapefruit is probably the best essential oil when it comes to supporting weight loss. Diffuse this oil 3 times a week for at least 15 minutes for best results.

Apply Topically

Using a carrier oil like coconut, add 15 to 20 drops of grapefruit to 10 ml of coconut oil in a roller bottle. Apply to areas of the body which will not be exposed to the sun. This can help support the lymphatic system to promote toxin release.

You can make a roll on for any of the essential oils above too!
